A personal message & call to action from Julia...
Over the last 23 years, I have collaborated with and trained the conservation team at the Textile Museum in Bhutan. We spent many weeks in monasteries doing inventories and assisting monk caretakers in preserving fragile textile collections. In fact, every person I have trained since 2000 continues to work at the Textile Museum— each deeply devoted to caring for both the religious and lay textile arts.
This work and my colleagues are very dear to me—and in summer 2023, they hope to preserve a group of 80+ textiles. They have identified all the conservation materials needed for the treatments and repairs, as well as rehousing the collection in clean protective materials and secure steel shelving. I hope you will join my colleague Mende and me in supporting this important preservation work.
